The Into Iraq book is being printed as I write, and the great heat earlier in the week coincided with my going into a mercifully dark basement to record commentary for the Into Iraq TV Series for Channel 5. So what’s left to do? The Into Iraq stage show of course!
Back in 2019, owing to having my heart re-valved, I had to cancel a stage tour about my North Korea journey. So I’ve decided to combine the two countries into an all-new From North Korea Into Iraq tour starting in October.
What do North Korea and Iraq share? Well, both were on George W Bush’s ‘axis of evil’, both had dictators to deal with (North Korea still does), both are way at the bottom of any tourist list, and both have been seen as dysfunctional, secretive and potentially dangerous.
All of which I find irresistible! I love nothing more than looking behind the headlines and digging out what’s really going on in countries with their backs to the world. This is where you find the most unpredictable experiences and the most unlikely stories – not just about the danger of travelling in these countries, but the positive side of meeting the people, trying the food, seeing how they live, often in incredibly hard conditions.
In my latest stage show I try to shine a light on the darkest places. So if you fancy something unique, come with me From North Korea Into Iraq.
